EXTERIOR LIGHT ON VINYL SIDING

New light is a great way to improve the look of an entry way. Putting a light on vinyl isn’t more difficult than on a brick wall but there are some other things that have to be done for a successful installation.
***CHECK YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODES FOR WIRING REQUIREMENTS***

Old light looks bad and must go
Like all electrical, turn the light off at the wall and turn off the breaker as well. There should be no power to the light
A multi tool works well to remove old silicone from siding
Remove the screw that are holding the light to the device box
Use a tester to ensure there is no power to the device box
There should be a mounting plate with the light. Install it on the box
Trace out where the light will sit on the vinyl so it can be cut out
Cut back the vinyl, particularly the bottom edges that stick out from the wall
This is all that needs to be cut back in the vinyl to have the light sit flat on the wall
Grounding wire should attach to the device box, to the mounting plate, and the light and wire should be attached with a wire nut
Ground wire helps to hold up the light
Neutral wires connected with a wire nut
Hot wires connected with a wire nut
Install light onto the mounting plate
Install screws and decorative caps that come with the light
There will be gaps from the siding
Pick your silicone colour and type for the applications you are using it for
The outcome should look something like this
Ultimately a big difference in the exterior of the house
