SLAB DOOR INSTALLATION Washrooms should have a door, because you know….its gross to not have a door on them. Slab doors, although cheaper than pre-framed doors, do require a fair amount of effort to install. And here we go. Remove the old door and hinges and mark top and interior if not clear Clamp doors together and scribe the hinges from the old door on the new slab door Make sure they are lined up in the same orientation Mark out the area where wood needs to be removed Chisel out the excess material so that the inhe sits flat and is properly recessed in the door Test the hinge to make sure that it is correctly positioned Drill pilot holes and install the hinge. Repeat for the number of hinges you have on your door Install the Door. If you added a hinge you may need to chisel the door frame as well The door might not sit perfectly the first time you close it. Fear not this can be adjusted a bit. In this case the frame is slightly too narrow Using shims and a screw to slightly lift the corner up Using shims and a screw to slightly pull the top corner in Great success the door closes without dragging on the frame My secret weapon for filling in holed in door frames Apply the plastic door over holes and damaged areas and let firm up Once the plastic wood hardens sand it down smooth Install door catch and mark where it will be centred on the door so that the door handle is at the right level Measure the area where your handle will be placed to get the correct backset. My width is 4.5 inches Based on the 4.5 inches I will use the 2 3/8 inch back set Attached cutting guide at the right height for the door catch, and drill out the holes This will require two hole saws Depending on what type of handle you have, you may need to chisel out other areas so the hardware is properly recessed in your door Fully attach the handle and test it out Here is a good use for all those flyers you get.
