CUTTING FLOOR REGISTER TILES

Normally I do one page for each of the jobs, but since these ones are relate I’ve put them all on the same page. Cutting tile is pretty easy, but the right tools are important to making the work easier.

I found it easiest to lay your tiles where they need to go and then line up your marks off the actual vent
Once your marks are made you can use a combination square to complete your lines
A wet tile saw is an easy way to make straight cuts with minimal dust. You should wear eye, hearing, and breathing protection
The second cut can also be made with the wet tile saw
If using a grinder cut a cutting blade specific for tile
Make a light score mark on the pencile line. Don't over cut
Some water keeps the dust down and helps make the cut easier
Cut the rest of the way through the tile
If the cut is over two tiles, line up the second one and mark and cut it the same way as the first tile
Line up the tiles and revel at you work

CUT OUT A TOILET FLANGE

Line up your tiles where they need to be and use a combination square to mark where the tile will go along one edge of the tile
Either line tiles up or use a tape measure to get the distance from the other tiles to the edge of the flange
Mark that line on your tile and you should have a square drawn on the tile
You can now mark off a circle on the tile based on the centre point you made
With eye, ear, and breathing protection on, make a light score mark on your pencil line
A bit of water keeps dust down and makes the cut easier
Keep on cutting the hole deeper
You will eventually make it through the whole tile
Put the tile in place and make sure you did a reasonable job

USING A HOLE SAW ON TILE

Mark the tile where the water supply will pass through the tile along on edge
Mark out where the water supply line will pass through on the other edge of the tile
Extend all 4 of the lines and there should be a square made where that water supply will be located
Mark the centre of the square
Use and actual hole saw for tile
Drill a small pilot hole. only a divot is needed. You don't need to drill through
Get some water on the tile to speed up the cut
Start drilling out you hole...add water if needed
Voila...Hole
Place the tile and ensure it is fitting right
Set your tiles and add your cover
