drive belt replacement

Changing the drive belt or accessory drive belt in your 2005 – 2012 Nissan Pathfinder is fairly easy. It is a bit intimidating due to the need to remove the air intake components, but other than that the job is very straight forward and requires only a very basic tool kit.

my key take aways

Before you start this job make sure you have the right belt
You need a 10mm socket to remove the engine cover
There is one vacuum hose to remove
There are 2 10 mm bolts to remove on the air ducting
Loosen the hose clamps on the throttle body side with an 8 mm socket
Loosen the hose clamps on the air filter side with an mm socket
Remove the air ducting
Remove the negative battery terminal
Put your 3/8 ratchet into the slot in the tensioner and turn counter clockwise
Pull belt off one pully, and the rest will be easy to remove
Put new belt on in the same configuration. I recommend doing the crankshaft pully first, and the Alternator pully last
Take tension off the tensioner and get the belt around the alternator pully
Take a good hard look to ensure the belt is on correctly
Re-install the air ducting
Tighten all the hose clamps
Re-install the upper bolts
Put the vacuum hose back on
Put the hose clamp back into position
Put the negative terminal on and start the vehicle to test the belt installation
Re-install the engine cover
