THROTTLE BODY CLEANING

Cleaning the throttle body on a 2013 Mazda 3 is actually a pretty easy job and really doesn’t require any special tools other than some throttle body cleaning spray. This can easily be completed in 30 minutes.

MY KEY TAKE AWAYS

Use a 10mm socket to remove the hose clamp
Remove the air filter cover, and lift it out of the way
Remove the air filter so that it isn't sprayed with cleaner
Loosen the other 10mm bolt on the hose clamp
Lift hoses out of the way
This should be the view of the throttle body
Put the key in the "ON" position...DO NOT START THE CAR
Use a clamp to depress the gas pedal and open the throttle body
This should now be the view of the throttle body
Spray in the cleaner and allow it to disolve the carbon deposits
Use non abrasive cloths or brushes to help remove additional carbon. Repeat the spray and wipe process until it is clean
Remove the clamp and remove the key
Replace the air duct and tighten the hose clamp
Reinstall hoses that were removed from the ducting
Replace the Air Filter
Replace the air filter cover
Tighten the second mechanical hose clamp
Allow the engine to sit for a while before starting
Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes, then go for a drive
