DifferenTIAL FLUID CHANGE Changing the Rear Diff Fluid is a pretty fast and easy change on the 2005 Honda Pilot. Overall there is no reason that it could not be completed within one hour. Get all the stuff you will need before you drain the fluid The 3.78L jug of VTM-4 fluid and replacement washers are the most important items but a small pump is also beneficial That is the drain plug....take it off last That is the fill plug....take it off first Remove the fill plug with a 3/8 drive ratchet. You should have the oil catch pan in place when you do this With the filler plug off remove the drain plug....definately have the oil catch pan in place Oil is pink....check the condition After cleaning the drain plug, i use thread sealant, but the thread sealant is optional Put a new crush washer on the drain plug Install the drain plug and torque it down. I went to 35 foot pounds Start to pump in the differential fluid Keep pumping until the fluid is at the level of the filler plug. You can tell this when fluid is running out of the fill plug After putting a new crush washer on the filler plug, and maybe thread sealant, install the filler plug and torque it down. I went to 35 foot pounds Bring the old fluid to recycle centre Check for leaks as you drive around a bit Tools required1 large container of Honda VTM-4 Fluid – From Honda2 x New washers – From Honda Hand pump – https://amzn.to/393iWZO – Standard socket wrench 3/8 – https://amzn.to/38U1DdM Torque wrench (preferred) 3/8 – https://amzn.to/36V71uz – High temp thread sealant (optional) – https://amzn.to/3lNpkrN – Oil Catch Pan – https://amzn.to/35H2PPG – Vinyl mechanic gloves – https://amzn.to/3mgdZke – Shop Towels – https://amzn.to/38SnX7D As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
