Transmission Fluid Change

The transmission is an important part of the drive train and needs to have its fluid changed periodically for the 2005 it should be done every 24 months, 48,000 or 30,000 miles. In this video I just drain and refill, a more comprehensive change could be achieved by doing a drain and fill, driving for day or two, and then doing a second drain and fill. This will get a better mix of fluid out of the transmission and torque converter.

Assemble the tools. No much is needed, but the socket extension are of use.
A funnel stack helps on the refill procedure.
Your vehicle should be on level ground when doing this. If not consider some ramps.
Don't drain unless you know you can refill.
The ATF refill plug is located here.
A few socket extensions will help you reach the filler plug.
This is what the fill plug looks like.
Here is the Drain Plug.
Drain plug is a 3/8 inch drive socket.
Once drain plug is out have drain plug ready. The fluid comes out fast.
Clean the magnet on the drain plug before installation
Add a new crush washer. If you want to use thread sealant that is up to you.
Re-Install the drain plug. I used a torque of 36 Foot Pounds
Its a good idea to inspect the old fluid as well as measure how much fluid that you should add back in.
I stack up 3 funnels in the filler hole so that is can pour in the fluid more easily.
Since I took out more than 3 liters I put in 3 liters straight away.
Start the car, and slowly cycle through the gears, waiting 3-4 seconds on each gear.
Turn off the vehicle and check the fluid level. Add some more fluid 100-200 ml at a time.
Go back and start the vehicle, and cycle through the gears with the car running.
Add more fluid if needed (repeat adding small amouts and cycling through the gears.)
It is easy to identify the ATF bolt.
Once again add a crush washer and if you want some thread sealant.
Torque spec I used was 33 Foot Pounds
